Project name: PPUMIS- Physical Planning and Urban Management Information System
Client: Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development
Country: Uganda

The principle objective of this assignment is to set up a Physical Planning and Urban Management Information System (PPUMIS) to enhance planning, preparation, implementation and monitoring of the urban processes.

The overall aim of this assignment is to set up Geographical Information and related Systems in the Directorate of Physical Planning and Urban Development (DPPUD) of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD) and in 14 Municipalities in order to store, validate and coordinate spatial data, prepare and implement Physical Development Plans and manage Urban Development faster, more effectively and more efficiently.

The technical solution to PPUMIS looks at PPUMIS as an implementation of comprehensive GIS for Land Development Planning at national scale with future extensions to manage entities with predominant spatial attributes. The system includes a database to facilitate data collection, storage, display and spatial analysis.

In this project our scope of work is:

  • To Create tools to import, analyze and display Physical Development Plans for intelligible use.
  • To Provide analysis and update capabilities for urban data. In particular: Street Naming and Building Numbering Process and Monitoring of Urban Indicators module. Our system is based on open source software and includes unique development according to the client requirements, with the abilities to synchronize and analyze urban data between the 14 municipalities and MLHUD.
